Size: 2 to 4.5 inches

Range: Eastern half of the United States from Southern Texas up to New England.

Habitat: open fields, meadows, woodlands, swampy areas, rivers; land close to water.

Diet: nectar from flowers such as: blueberry, redbud, blackberry; lilac, milkweed, dogbane, verbena and viper's bugloss.

Breeding: Females lay single green eggs.

Nesting: Zebra swallowtail nests are found on the undersides of pawpaw leaves.

Description & Behavior
The zebra swallowtail butterfly has black and white striped wings; with long sword-like tails that are tipped with white.
