Conservation Status: Least Concern

Size: Stands 6 to 11 feet tall, weighs between 600-1200 pounds.

Range: Upper part of North America, Canada, Alaska and into New England. Also the woods of the North Hemisphere.

Habitat: Woods, thickets, swamps; areas with thick vegetation and a close water source.

Diet: Herbivorous; plants, bark, grass, roots

Breeding: Fall, September to October.

Nesting: 1 to 2 calves; weighing in between 25 to 35 pounds.

Warnings: Moose avoid humans, but rutting males or cows with calves can be protective and have been known to charge people, attack cars and even trains!

Description & Behavior
The moose is a large, horse sized animal. A moose's coloring varies from long dark brown to black hair. Moose have a pair of large antlers that measure 4 to 7 feet in length. Moose have long legs, strong shoulders and a hidden tail.
