Giant Panda
Ailuropoda melanoleuca
Conservation Status: Endangered
Size: Males are larger than females; height is 4 to 6 feet tall, weight is 176-300 lbs.
Range: China
Habitat: Prefers mountainours areas where bamboo grows plentiful.
Diet: Herbivorous; primary source of food is bamboo but also eat other things such as: small mammals, fish, insects and some plants and fruits.
Breeding: March to May
Nesting: 1 to 2 cubs born, weighing at birth 3 to 4 ounces.
Notes: In Japan, the hide of the panda is extremely valuable, the price of the black and white hide can fetch up to $176,000.
Description & Behavior The Giant Panda has a large round, stock body; coloring is a white body with black rings around the eyes, black shoulders, legs, ears and a black nose.
