Tiger
Panthera tigris
Conservation Status: Endangered
Size: Males are large than females; 4 to 13 feet long; weighing in between 220 to 930 pounds.
Range: E to S Asia
Habitat: A variety of regions such as: forests, woodlands, mountains regions, swampy areas, also savannahs, deserts and tundras.
Diet: Carnivorous; prefers small to medium mammals, also birds, fishes, carrion
Breeding: Year round; November to April.
Nesting: 1 to 7 cubs born in a den or an isolated cave, they weigh around 2 to 3 pounds at birth.
Notes: The coat of the tiger also comes in a variety of colors from pure white to almost solid orange, depending on its location and climate.
Warnings: Though tigers avoid contact with humans, a few have been known to become man-eaters.
Description & Behavior
Tigers have long, muscled, lean streamline bodies with thick paws, shoulders and powerful jaws. The color of a tiger's coat is reddish-orange with thick black stripes that cover limbs, face and even the tail. There is white fur around the eyes and cheeks of the tiger and on its underside.
